OUTKAST CONFIRMS #ATLast WEEKEND ARTISTS
GRAMMY WINNING DUO TO PERFORM THREE SOLD-OUT SHOWS IN ATLANTA’S CENTENNIAL OLYMPIC PARK 9/26, 9/27 & 9/28
(Atlanta, GA – Sept. 23, 2014) – Outkast made history, yet again, when the Southern rap pioneers sold out Atlanta’s Centennial Olympic Park three times over in just 24 hours. The upcoming #ATLast weekend brings them home on September 26, 27 and 28 with a different artist line-up each night in the city’s largest “venue,” in front of over 20,000 fans.
MUSIC – On Friday, the six-time Grammy Award winning headliners will perform with featured acts 2 Chainz, Janelle Monae, and Solange. The Outkast set will also feature Bun B.
On Saturday, sets include Kid Cudi, Childish Gambino, and Raury as previously announced.
On Sunday, B.o.B.’s performance will lead into Outkast’s final night on the hometown stage. The festivities will kick off that evening with one of the biggest celebrations of southernplayalisticadillacmuzik ever, to include Killer Mike, 8 Ball and MJG, Bun B, K Camp, Devin the Dude, Kilo, Gipp Goodie, and DJ Unk to blow out their Southern Round Up.
ROLLIN’ DOWN THE STRIP ON VOGUES – Outkast fans can get #ATLast tickets, along with the ultimate Outkast fan package, delivered to them in some of the hottest cars in the game. Between noon and 1:00 p.m. on September 26, 27, 28, new and existing Uber riders who apply the code UberOUTKAST within the app can request the ultimate Outkast fan package and tickets to that night’s show. For every person who signs up for Uber and rides during Outkast #ATLast weekend, $5 will be donated to one of two charities near and dear to Outkast’s heart: Centers of Hope or Big Kidz.
ART – Also this weekend, Tumblr has teamed with Outkast, who has inspired a next generation of artists. An “In Real Life” art installation at Centennial Olympic Park will display the work of fans who have submitted designs throughout the summer via Outkast.tumblr.com and Bigboi.tumblr.com. Images will be projected against a giant cube that was inspired by the now-iconic cube that has anchored each Outkast festival performance this summer. Now in its twelfth installment, Tumblr IRL offers vibrant installations by bands and artists that meld fandom and design to bring some of the best aspects of their blogs to life. TWO DOPE BOYZ – After announcing festival dates around the world for their 20th anniversary, one city was noticeably missing until mid-June, when an online image suddenly appeared online of Antwan “Big Boi” Patton’s and André “3000” Benjamin’s silhouettes against the Atlanta skyline, lit by a hovering UFO above. Fan speculation mounted and was confirmed a day later when the hometown shows were announced in quick succession and sold out in minutes. A dedicated #ATLast website provides the most current show information at www.outkastatlast.com
The show’s supporting partners are Atlanta’s own V103 (WVEE FM), Creative Loafing, Rival Entertainment and The Bowery Presents.
ABOUT OUTKAST: It is impossible to quantify the creative impact and influence of Grammy-Award winning rap duo, Outkast, or the work of its members, André “3000” Benjamin and Antwan “Big Boi” Patton. Together and individually, they have set the bar for originality, blasting genre boundaries and combining mediums since their debut album Southernplayalisticadillacmuzik was released in 1994.
The seismic effects of their originality continued to be felt with each subsequent release and, globally, Outkast has sold more than 25 million albums. Their critically lauded, Platinum-Certified sophomore album ATLiens (1996) was one of the rare works of art to be appreciated for being ahead of its time, in its own time. The double-Platinum Aquemini (1998) and quadruple-Platinum Stankonia (2000) received the highest praises from the loftiest critics to the most dedicated of Hip Hop fans. Both albums were ultimately enshrined in Rolling Stone Magazine’s definitive list of the 500 Greatest Albums of All Time in 2012. The Diamond-certified Speakerboxxx/The Love Below (2003) was not only a massive commercial success, it also earned six Grammys, including Album of the Year, making Outkast the first rap group ever to win the award in that coveted category. In 2006, the duo again pulled off the unexpected with Idlewild, a film that both members starred in and the accompanying soundtrack, which debuted at #1 on Billboard’s Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart.
Big Boi and André 3000 are also frequent collaborators with a multitude of artists. In recent years, Big Boi has released two critically acclaimed solo albums, Luscious Leftfoot: The Son of Chico Dusty (2010) and Vicious Lies and Dangerous Rumors (2013). He has also appeared in feature films Who’s Your Caddy and ATL. In addition to a long and eclectic range of guest performances, André 3000 appeared in Be Cool, Semi-Pro, Four Brothers, and the upcoming Jimi Hendrix biopic, JIMI: All Is By My Side. Benjamin’s own high-end clothing line, Benjamin Bixby, debuted in 2010, at which time GQ Magazine named him “Best New Designer of the Year.”
In January 2014, to celebrate Outkast’s 20th anniversary, the duo confirmed plans for a headlining festival tour that began at the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival and continues with dates throughout the summer.
